Course Outline

Research in pediatric dentistry has led to a number of significant evidenced-based clinical practice changes in the last few years. Changes include the use of silver diamine fluoride for more effective medical management of caries, SMART fillings, predictable outcomes in pediatric pulp therapy, and changes in the management of dental trauma, as well as the safe sedation of children. This course will review an evidenced-based approach to the current dental management of infants, toddlers, and children in 2017.

Course Objectives

By the end of the end of the course, participants will be able to medically manage caries through the use of silver diamine fluoride and 'SMART’ fillings, provide predictable primary tooth pulp therapy, and manage dental trauma in the toddler and child. Topics include:

• Silver diamine fluoride – medical management of caries
• 'SMART' fillings – the use of restorative materials to manage caries.
• Paediatric pulp therapy – what’s in your patient’s tooth
• Dental trauma – the management of primary and young permanent tooth trauma
• Paediatric sedation – safety first, regulatory changes and why
