Course Outline

Dental implants have become the treatment of choice for replacing missing teeth. However, a perfect site in an edentulous ridge is usually rare. In addition to being difficult to diagnose, the variety of available materials and surgical techniques makes the decision regarding graft materials and surgical approach complicated. This course will provide an evidence-based rationale and insight into the use of materials and techniques for predictable site development and dental implant success.

Course Objectives

At the end of this course, participants will formulate a better understanding of the science, materials and techniques available for implant site development and discuss the critical factors for success and selection of the surgical approach. Topics will include:

• The main principles for successful guided bone regeneration.
• The different types of bone graft materials and how they compare
• The available techniques for ridge augmentation and how they compare.
• The factors that govern the choice of surgical approach.
• The disadvantages/limitations of current grafting techniques.
