Course Outline

This course provides dental health professionals with a step by step guide and best practice protocol to effectively reprocess medical devices and instruments for patient care. Includes in depth discussion surrounding sterilization and the classification of instruments as they related to patient procedures and the Spaulding System. Discuss common infection control myths/misconceptions and realistic goals for every practice, with opportunity for Q&A.

Course Objectives

At the end of this course, participants will have a broader understanding of the instrument reprocessing cycle and the role it plays in safe patient care, while gaining a new perspective about infection control and how it applies to dentistry.

Topics include:
- Evaluating and purchasing dental instruments
- Instrument classification as it relates to patient procedures and the Spaulding System
- Manufacturers’ instructions and Health Canada compliance
- Legal documentation and biological testing
- Infection control - back to basics

A continental breakfast and light lunch will be provided.
